This work was completed during a 2015 Artist-In-Residence with the Angeles National Forest. I spent a week plus painting in and around Crystal Lake Recreation Area, located in the eastern part of the San Gabriel Mountains at about 7,000′ elevation. Each day I completed two to three paintings on site. I loved exploring the abandoned upper roads of the campground and choosing a view into the mountains, like this morning view looking at the patchwork of vegetation on the mountain slopes.
