Description
This painting is one of two works that study the changing colors of light and shadow on a canyon wall in Big Santa Anita Canyon, near First Water. In this painting, I have kept the light cool, while the shadows lean warm (which is opposite how may often appear in nature). I like the tall stretched view, with a little bit of sky at the top right corner. The sharp pattern of light and dark and simple shapes keeps the painting quite abstract.
12×9 oil on gessoed wood panel, January 2018
The wood panel is 1/4″ plywood salvaged from a cabin in the canyon, cut to size and treated with several coats gesso.
