Here is the ruin of an old stone cabin in Big Santa Anita Canyon (Angeles National Forest, CA). I have painted this scene many times – from various points of view, in different seasons and times of day. This scene shows the area before the Bobcat fire, which burned down the hillside behind the cabin foundation and all around the cabin. Apparently the cabin burned in an earlier fire. The stonework stubbornly survives. The vegetation changes.
