I completed this small painting my first morning at Jumbo Rocks. Skies had cleared and the morning sun illuminated the boulder formation near my campsite. The creosote bushes in the foreground also fascinated me with their lacy structure and golden color when lit by the sun.
Joshua Tree National Park has innumerous and fascinating boulder formations and distinctive vegetation, including the eponymous Joshua trees spread across vast desert plains. In March 2023 I took a weeklong solo camping trip to the park to paint in this striking and expansive place.
